This is the first account devoted solely to the mosses and liverworts of Dorset for
over 120 years. Since 1880, when H. H. Wood, rector of Holwell, published ‘Mosses of
Dorsetshire’.
This book describes the history of recording, the many different habitats present
and the current state of the Dorset bryophyte flora. There are distribution maps for
all species found in more than one locality. The book is intended both for the
general naturalist and for the experienced bryologist.
There are descriptions of the 458 species recorded with maps for 405 species.
The introductory chapters cover history of recording, changes in the flora and
bryophytes habitats.
